The second entry in Classical Guitar’s quarterly “Music to Play” series (originally published in the Winter 2016 issue) is this lovely and lyrical “Hawaiian classical” piece called Born and Raised, written by Hawaiian composer Bailey Matsuda, and arranged by Oahu guitarist Ian O’Sullivan, who recorded it on his first album, also called Born and Raised. It should be playable by intermediate-level guitarists, and give players a taste of the gentle beauty of the Islands, as well as a touch of that Hawaiian slack-key guitar feeling.
