Andrés Segovia: The Teacher

$ 0.00

American guitarist Michael Lorimer was a protégé of Andrés Segovia, and among the top guitarists to emerge during the late ’60s and 1970s. He was the first American classical guitarist to play concerts in the Soviet Union and is also recognized as an early advocate of playing Baroque music on vintage guitars and other instruments. His groundbreaking guitar arrangements of the Bach Cello Suites further cemented his reputation. He has taught and written about guitar for many years, and in 2014 was inducted into the Guitar Foundation of America Hall of Fame. This article, which appeared in the February 1984 issue of Classical Guitar, gives us a glimpse of what it was like to study with Segovia, who was celebrating his 90th birthday that year, and still occasionally teaching and performing.
